Paid Internships for AMFTs and Post-Docs
The Institute periodically hires qualified early career clinicians to work with and learn from us.
A Rare Opportunity
This is a rare opportunity to acquire the skills necessary to develop a robust and thriving private practice. This post-doctorate or MFT/LCSW internship will initially consist of up to 10 clinical hours per week plus one hour of direct supervision. Additional hours may be possible over time.
The Supervisors
Direct supervision will be provided by Dr. Kenneth Perlmutter (PSY25112) and Dylan Kersh, MFT (107259), both seasoned private practice professionals who co-lead the associate/post-doc team. Expectations
A one-to-two-year post-licensure commitment will be expected in exchange for the opportunity to intern with us. You'll enjoy making your own hours: days, evenings, or weekends. Hourly compensation exceeding typical training programs and internships will be provided. The practice you will be joining for this internship is located in lovely private offices with easy parking along the Lincoln Ave. corridor in San Rafael, CA.
Requirements
Completion of PhD, PsyD, MA or MS degree at accredited institution
Experience with individual, group, and/or family psychotherapy
Substance use treatment and teen/young adult experience is preferred
Personality disorders/trauma work experience is a plus
Have income or financial support in addition to this opportunity since the ramp up to 10+ hours/week typically takes several months.

Kenneth Perlmutter, Ph.D. has spent his 30-plus- year career working with individuals and families struggling with complex psychological problems including attachment problems, trauma-related conditions, and addiction. In 2019 Freedom from Family Dysfunction: A Guide for Families Battling Addiction or Mental Illness was published by Rowman & Littlefield. In 2008 Dr. Perlmutter founded The Family Recovery Institute to provide individual and family treatment as well as clinical supervision and training.
Dylan Kersh, MFT has worked as an educator and psychotherapist in the Bay Area and Hawaii for the last 20 years. He is currently in private practice in San Rafael and supervises interns as the Director of Group Programs for the Community Institute for Psycho-therapy. In addition to working extensively in the addiction world, Dylan sees a variety of individuals and families in his practice. He works from a family systems, attachment theory, and psychodynamic model and incorporates mindfulness, EMDR, Internal Family Systems, CBT, and a variety of other evidence based practices.
